Veneers
Many people have teeth with minor imperfections that can make them feel self-conscious when they smile. Veneers are a simple cosmetic dentistry solution that conceals common issues like a chipped or cracked tooth, stained teeth that have not responded well to teeth whitening, or a larger-than-normal gap between two teeth.
Improve Your Appearance with Dental Veneers
Veneers are thin, customized tooth shells that fit over a tooth to disguise a specific issue. You may also hear veneers referred to as porcelain veneers since that is the primary material used to make them.
When you arrive at Oneonta Dental Center for your initial consultation, our dentist shows you a model with several shades of teeth. We take the time to match the color of your new veneer to the normal shade of your teeth so that your treated tooth does not look different from the rest and cause unwanted attention.
What to Expect When Receiving a Veneers
After your customized tooth shell comes back from our laboratory, one of our office assistants will reach out to you to come in to have your veneer affixed to your tooth. The first thing our dentist does during this second appointment is remove a small amount of enamel from the tooth receiving a veneer. Taking this step is necessary to ensure that the veneer fits properly on your tooth.
For the next step, our dentist applies dental adhesive putty to the front of your tooth and then quickly places the veneer over it. The veneer hardens in place within several minutes with help from a handheld curing light. Our dentist then trims excess dental putty from your tooth and has you check your smile in a mirror to make sure you feel satisfied with it.
Dental veneers are more resistant to staining than your natural teeth. They typically last 10 to 15 years before you need to consider repeating the procedure.
